Nintendo never released a Picross game for the GBA.

We are rectifying that in our own little way!

  • 160+ puzzles

  • Two player modes

    (with the link cable)

  • Easter eggs and secrets
  • E-Reader support

Pixel Pup is a nonogram game

If you have ever played any of Nintendo's Picross games, you will feel right at home.

The goal is to reveal the hidden picture in the grid by filling in the correct tiles. The numbers help you figure out which tiles need to be filled in.

The puzzles

The game will have at least 160 puzzles, and probably more. The puzzles are divided into 8 "packs", and each pack has a theme:

  • Entomology
  • Art Museum
  • Fantasy
  • Zoology
  • The Nineties
  • DIY
  • Taiyaki Fabulous part 1
  • Taiyaki Fabulous part 2

Each theme has a unique setting, for example here is what a The Nineties puzzle looks like.

And here is a Fantasy puzzle.

Taiyaki Fabulous

Two of the puzzle packs celebrate the game Taiyaki Fabulous. A very cool adventure nonogram game for the original Game Boy. The creator of Taiyaki Fabulous is also working on Pixel Pup.

Two player mode

Two player mode will use the GBA link cable. You will only need one copy of the game for this. There will be several ways to play with a friend:

  • Cooperatively: work together on the same puzzle to solve it faster.
  • Competitively: who can finish the puzzle first?
  • Lightning Rounds: who can beat a series of small puzzles the quickest?

The release plan

We plan to release it first as a digital download. This will be a proper GBA rom you can play in an emulator, on a MiSTer, or on a real GBA with a flash cartridge.

We may do a physical cartridge release too. More details on that as we get closer to the release date. Stay tuned!

We are also seriously considering releasing the game for the Neo Geo, Neo Geo CD and on Steam. Stay tuned for more details on that.

Bonus stuff

We are hoping to add some more fun things. But since the game is still in development, we can't know for sure these will happen just yet.

  • E-Reader support: scan in a Series One card to play bonus puzzles.
  • Randomly generated puzzles: greatly expand beyond the built in puzzles! This will especially be nice for two player mode.

The e-Reader version

Pixel Pup was also going to be released as an e-Reader game. That has hit some manufacturing snags and is on indefinite hold. For more details, check the announcement.

Keep up on development
